Principles

  1. Start with not: The most sustainable digital product is the one we don’t make. Start with not building it.
  2. Resource efficient: If you have to build it, build it with the least amount of digital resource usage.
  3. Transparent: Make sure, the customers of your product can see & understand the environmental impact of their usage.
  4. Measure: During development and when deployed, make sure measure & monitor the environmental impact you are creating. What gets measured gets managed.
  5. Take responsibility: Engage with your supply chain and ask them to do better and reduce the environmental impact which they are passing on to you.
  6. Educate: Help your customers, suppliers and employees understand the consequence of a new feature, of more platforms, more data etc. Help them do better.
  7. Dispose: Remove stale and outdated data, help customers remove what they do not need, remove digital products & services which are unused or have little usage.
